It is worth understanding what a PDF actually is, because it explains the limits. A PDF has no paragraphs and no concept of a page flowing into the next — it only records that a particular glyph sits at a particular spot. Rebuilding a Word document means inferring the structure back out of those positions.
The result is therefore genuinely editable, which is what people want it for, rather than a picture-perfect copy where every line is trapped in its own text box and impossible to edit. Straightforward documents — letters, reports, articles — come out very close. Multi-column magazine layouts and heavily designed pages will need tidying.

Will the Word file look exactly like my PDF?
Simple documents come out very close. Complex layouts with multiple columns, sidebars or precise image placement will shift, because a PDF stores fixed positions rather than a document structure that Word can reproduce.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Not usefully on its own — a scan is a photograph, so there is no text to extract yet. Run OCR on it first to turn the picture of the words into real text, then convert.
Are images included in the Word file?
The text, its styling and its colours are converted. Images are not carried across in this version, so pull them out with the PDF to JPG tool if you need them.
